Scotland - Criminal Injuries Compensation - Scottish CICA Claims

Our specialist personal injury solicitors deal with criminal injury compensation claims arising from violence, assault and abuse in Scotland using the no win no fee scheme. If your Scottish Criminal Injury Compensation Authority (CICA) claim is unsuccessful you will not be charged. You will not be expected to pay for any expenses incurred as the claim proceeds. For Scottish criminal injury compensation claims we offer clear and unambiguous advice, an assessment of your case and an estimate of the value. For a free consultation, just call the helpline or send the contact form. You will not be under any obligation to continue with our services after this free consultation.

Incidents of violent crime occurring in Scotland, England, and Wales all fall under the jurisdiction of the same criminal injury compensation scheme and the same administrative offices based in London and Glasgow. The Northern Ireland CICA office in Belfast is a separate organisation with separate, but similar, legislation.

The CICA requires that claims arising in Scotland, England, and Wales be submitted within two years of the assault. This limit can be extended under extraordinary circumstances only. Several factors may affect the success of your claim. These are failure to cooperate fully with the police during investigation, your behaviour (before, during, and after the incident) and any ‘unspent’ criminal convictions.

If you are not satisfied with the CICA’s original decision, you may request for a review by a more case senior officer. If you are still unsatisfied with this final decision, you may appeal to the independent Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel (CICAP).

Victim Support In Scotland

UK Victim Support, which helps over a million victims and witnesses of crime every year, consists of three organizations covering England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Victim Support is a free and independent organisation not associated with the police or court system. As a free service, it is available to everyone whether the crime has been reported or not, and regardless of when the crime occurred.
